Purpose and personal use

Radar Backup is a utility intended for the owner's personal use with the owner's local research application. It encrypts backup content on the owner's device before transferring the encrypted repository to Google Drive.

This public site supplies information about that utility. It is not a hosted backup service, a hosted research application or an invitation to connect other people's Google accounts.

Only synthetic test data has been uploaded to Google Drive. Production backup remains inactive and no real research dataset has been uploaded. The completed synthetic pilot does not establish production readiness or promise future results.

Owner responsibilities

The owner is responsible for choosing data to back up, having the necessary rights to process it, controlling access to the local device and Google account, maintaining OAuth authorization and protecting restic recovery credentials.

The owner should maintain an appropriate retention plan, keep separate recovery information, monitor backup outcomes and test restoration. Maintenance or deletion commands can remove backup files. Losing the required password or keys can make encrypted backups unrecoverable.

Backup and recovery limits

The utility is provided on an as-available basis, without a promised service level. Backups, integrity checks and restorations can fail or be incomplete because of configuration errors, software defects, data corruption, loss of credentials, storage limits, interrupted transfers or service outages.

No guarantee is made that any particular file, snapshot, recovery time or recovery point will be available. A successful synthetic-data test does not guarantee recovery of future production data. Encryption does not guarantee absolute security.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, no warranty of uninterrupted operation, fitness for a particular purpose or complete recovery is given. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Google Drive and other software

Use of Google Drive and Google's authorization services is subject to Google's applicable terms, account policies, storage capacity, quotas and service availability. Google may change or restrict access. The owner is responsible for any account or storage costs.

Radar Backup uses an OAuth Desktop client with the drive.file scope only. That permission is limited to app-accessible files and does not guarantee access to backups created with a different client or upload method.

Third-party software remains subject to its own licenses and terms. Radar Backup is an independently operated personal utility and is not presented as endorsed by Google.

Privacy and changes

The Privacy Policy explains Google data handling, local credential storage and this website's behavior. The owner should review and update these terms when the utility or its intended use changes.
